What is a login ID?
A login ID is the unique identifier that you have been issued as a user of a particular system. A login ID is specific to a login type:
- A Harvard University ID (HUID) is a person's Harvard University ID number (the first 8 digits of the Harvard ID number on your Harvard ID card). **Extension and Summer School students please note that the DCE ID number beginning with ‘@’ is not the same as your Harvard ID number. For more information about the DCE ID numbers and PINs, please see the DCE website: https://dceweb.harvard.edu/prod/gowfaqs.taf
- An XID Login ID is often a person's email address, but could be almost any value specified as a login ID when an XID account is created
- A Post.Harvard Login ID is the same ID that Harvard Alumni use to login to post.harvard.edu. Alumni/ae, HAA Associates and Students can register for Post.Harvard login credentials here: https://post.harvard.edu/olc/pub/HAA/register/register.cgi
- An eCommons Login ID is the same id that Harvard Medical School affiliates use to login to ecommons.med.harvard.edu

Make sure that the correct login type is selected for the login id that you intend to use. If you are having trouble logging in, one issue is that you may have selected the wrong login type.

A password is a word, phrase, or non-sensical group of characters that, when combined with the proper login ID, allows a person to login through the Harvard PIN System. A PIN is simply a password for Harvard University ID users that is managed within the PIN System.
